Product description

Reduce or eliminate jaw pain, TMJ symptoms, headaches, or neck pain caused by tight jaw muscles by stretching with the gentle jaw for a few minutes each day.
Let us explain.
Many experts believe that most jaw muscle pain and tightness result from misalignment of the upper and lower teeth and how they come together when a person bites down. Some doctors call this misalignment a “bad bite” or “malocclusion.”
Conventional daytime treatment for sore jaw muscles ranges from medication, therapy, and even surgery for treating the symptoms of clenching and grinding. Unfortunately, each of these treatments takes time and money, is not always easy, and might not give lasting power over jaw pain.
An alternative to these treatments is passive jaw muscle stretching. Jaw muscle stretching is a simple, natural, and more effective way to find lasting relief for sore jaw muscles, and it is something you can do on your own!
To make passive jaw stretching easy, a doctor specializing in facial pain created a gentle jaw for his patients to use at home. The instructions for home use are simple: stretch with the gentle jaw a few times a day until the pain goes away.
Many people start to feel improvements within a few days and often report that their symptoms are largely gone after a few weeks of consistent use. After the pain goes away, we encourage users to continue using the gentle jaw to stretch each day as part of a healthy passively routine.
Once you start passive stretching your jaw muscles, you will see why we like to say the gentle jaw is like “yoga for the jaw.”
How to use the gentle jaw a few minutes a day to make the pain go away:

1. Measure
Use the range of motion scale to determine how wide you can comfortably open your jaw.
Place the notch of the range of motion scale between your lower front teeth and then open as wide as you comfortably can, and record that opening number.
Then select the nearest sized gentle jaw that corresponds to that number to begin your stretching exercises.
The small size is 22-32 mm, medium is 33-43 mm, and large is 44-54 mm.

2. Place
Hold the gentle jaw with the curved side of the device facing you.
Open your mouth and place the bottom notch in the center of your lower front teeth.
Place your upper teeth on the “steps” along the top.
If you reach the top step of the gentle jaw you have selected, then move to the next larger-sized device.

3. Stretch
While holding the gentle jaw firmly between your fingers at all times, rotate the device back until your upper teeth reach the highest step that provides a comfortable stretch.
Hold for 30 seconds, then remove the gentle jaw, close your mouth slowly, and relax.

4. Repeat
Repeat steps 2 and 3 every two hours.
We recommend using gentle jaw at least 6 times per day until you are pain-free.
Included in the gentle jaw kit:

Range of motion measuring device
The range of motion scale enables you to measure your opening so you know which size of gentle jaw to start with. The size of the device you use and the number of steps on the device can chart your progress you can reach.

Three sizes of gentle jaw included
Three gentle jaw sizes are included in the kit: small (22-32mm), medium (33-43mm) and large (44-54mm).
Each is fabricated in a certified clean room in USA and is ready to use right out of the box.

How often should I use gentle jaw and when will I see results?
When you have pain, the gentle jaw should be used for 30 seconds every two hours. It would be best if you also did an extra 30-second stretch if you catch yourself clenching your teeth during the day. If your pain goes away, then we recommend using the gentle jaw for 30 seconds four times a day (before breakfast, before lunch, before dinner, and before bedtime) to maintain your range of motion.
How soon will you see results?
Many people start to see results within a few days. It may take some people a few more days or weeks of using gentle jaw to feel the desired pain relief.
What is the gentle jaw made from? Will it break or wear out?
The gentle jaw is made from medical-grade nylon sourced from castor oil, a sustainable resource that is BPA free. The gentle jaw is fabricated in a certified clean room in the USA and is safe to use out of the box. The gentle jaw will not wear out or break from normal use.

My jaw clicks. Will the gentle jaw help stop that?
No, the gentle jaw will not stop the clicking. It only helps with muscle pain, which is the source of 95% of the pain patients complain about even when they think they have “TMJ.” If your joint is clicking, stretching will not help reduce or eliminate the noise. Having said that, if you are having pain, the critical question is, “where is the pain?” If the pain is in your jaw, your temples, under your jaw, etc. then the gentle jaw will likely help. If you are not having pain with a clicking joint, then treatment is most likely not indicated.
What is a normal range of motion for the jaw?
The normal range of motion of a jaw is 40 mm to 60 mm, which is a wide range. This means that there is no magic number for a normal range of opening. Someone might measure their opening at 42 mm, but if their normal is 55 mm, then 42 mm is restricted.
Scientific studies show the benefits of stretching the muscles of the jaw
What are the scientific studies that support stretching jaw muscles that are beneficial to jaw pain? Many studies are showing the benefits of stretching skeletal muscles, including the closing muscles of the jaw. Here are a few:

Customers find the jaw massager highly effective, reporting significant pain relief for TMJ, clenching, and tension headaches, and appreciate its simple concept of stretching. The device is easy to use, with one customer noting the 30-second stretches are simple to accomplish. While some find the large size perfect for them, others say it’s too small, and opinions on comfort and value for money are mixed, with some feeling it’s worth the money while others consider it pricey. The closure mechanism receives negative feedback, with customers reporting that the case won’t stay closed.
